尼沃拉1972年出生在美国马萨诸塞州波士顿。他的母亲维吉尼亚是艺术家[1][2][3]。父亲彼得罗·尼沃拉是大学政治学教授和作家[4][5][6]。母親有英國血統[7]。祖父是意大利人[8]。祖母是德國猶太人[9][10][11][12]。
