| 描述 | View from the rim of the volcano inside a volcano. Taal Lake, the country’s third largest, fills the caldera formed between 100,000 and 500,000 years ago when Taal Volcano had massive eruptions. The caldera was originally open to the sea, but a series of major eruptions in the first half of the 18th century closed access. Precipitation in the centuries since has raised the lake’s level and turned the saline waters fresh, leading to the evolution of unique species. In the middle of Taal Lake is Volcano Island, a smaller volcano with its own freshwater lake inside with a little rocky island known as Vulcan Point. Volcano Island is a high-risk area that has been declared a Permanent Danger Zone due to on-going seismic activity and ground-fracturing events. (There have been 33 eruptions since 1572.) |
