English: These craters mark the formation of brine pools, from which salt has seeped through the seafloor and encrusted the nearby substrate. Image courtesy of Lophelia II 2010 Expedition, NOAA-OER/BOEMRE (Link).
Français : Cratère de saumure salée, formant sur le fond marin, à grande profondeur, des sortes de piscines sur le fond marin, à partir de laquelle le sel peut s'iniltrer dans le sédiment environnant. Photo prise en 2010 par un véhicule sous-marin sur le site dénommé Green Canyon 246 (GC246), antérieurement non-exploré et choisi par cette expédition en raison d'une bathymétrie a priori très complexe et pour ses anomalies d'amplitude sismique.
