2016年哈那塞攻势由伊斯兰国和阿克萨战士发起，旨在切断叙利亚政府通往阿勒颇省北部的唯一补给线。

2016年2月21日晚上10时，伊斯兰国发起进攻。[11]到次日，Rasm Al-Nafal村及哈那塞－阿勒颇公路上另外两处地方在伊斯兰国与阿克萨战士的联合攻击下失守。[2]叙政府通往阿勒颇市的唯一补给线被切断。[12]圣战分子随后攻占另外6个村庄。[13][14]

2月23日，伊斯兰国攻占哈那塞（英语：Khanasir）。[15]政府军其后反攻，夺回哈那塞外围的Syria Tel山[16]及Rasm Al-Nafal。[17]

次日早上，叙军进入哈那塞及另一个村庄。[18]2月25日，叙军老虎部队与友军收复哈那塞，但外围的数个小山仍被伊斯兰国占据。[19][20][21]叙军其后向哈那塞北面推进，收复附近的Al-Mughayrat村。[22]与此同时，从北方进攻的叙军于前一天在俄军空袭下取得突破后，成功收复Shilallah al-Kabeera。[23][24]到2月25日完结时，叙军抵达另外两个村庄，开始为次日早上的新攻势作准备。[19]

2月26日叙军收复3个村庄，[25][26]使得占据杰布勒盐沼西南方一些村庄的伊斯兰国分子面临被包围的危险。[27]叙军于该日稍后从伊斯兰国手上收复4个村庄，[28]成功打通往阿勒颇的公路。[29]伊斯兰国一度占据al-Hamam山附近一个可俯瞰该条公路的村庄，[30]但在次日被叙军赶离。[31][32]
