1959年，莫妮出生於美國加利福尼亞州聖羅莎，她的父親叫沃利·喬治，是一個唱片騎師。[2][3]
2歲時，莫妮的父母離異，5歲的時候，她認識了她的繼父的德·莫妮。她有兩個從繼父那邊帶來的哥哥，一個叫喬納森，是一名商人；而彼得則是一名結他手。[4]
莫妮早年在英國英格蘭薩福克郡的著名學府夏山學校讀書，[5] 高中畢業後，莫妮回到紐約市，在李·斯特拉伯格戲劇和電影學院讀書。[4]

1986年到1990年，莫妮和布魯斯·瓦格納是夫妻關係。[4]
1995年到2002年，莫妮曾和瑞恩·奧尼爾的兒子帕特里克·奧尼爾結婚，兩人育有2個女兒。[6]
