動白蟻屬（學名：Zootermopsis）是原白蟻科的一個白蟻屬。它們主要分布在北美西部從加拿大到墨西哥這一帶[1] ，除了內華達動白蟻，它已在日本定居。 [2]它們生活在腐爛潮濕的木頭中，一般棲息在熱帶雨林的倒樹或者死樹上，它們的胃中有一種共生關係的原生動物和細菌，通過這些微生物，動白蟻就能分解木材的纖維素。動白蟻的生活和繁殖周期與其家族的其他成員相比相對正常。所有非士兵種姓都可以通過副齒的形狀和位置來識別物種，這比以前基於士兵種姓較模糊的形態進行識別的方法更能確定物種。 [3]
