英國第二大城市
英國的第二大城市（英語：Second city of the United Kingdom）即英國除倫敦以外的最大或最重要的城市。身為英格蘭乃至整個英國的首府，倫敦不論是從人口、經濟實力，還是從城市的大小、規模、等級來看，都是英國不容置疑的第一大城市。按照「首要城市」的理論，英國資源大部分都集中在倫敦一座城市之中，因此其他城市的規模大致都與彼此相似。至於該國的第二大城市則並沒有一個普遍及公認的說法[1]。究其原因，一是該稱呼僅是民間說法，並不具有官方地位，二是歷史演變。
英國第二大城市這一稱號在英倫三島多次易手。在大不列顛王國於1707年成立之前，英格蘭的第二大城市是西南部的布里斯托，更早（十七世紀以前）則是東部的諾里奇。在此後的喬治王朝期間，普遍認為大英帝國下的第二大城市是愛爾蘭的都柏林。但隨著英國在此之後迅速邁入工業化，多座城市隨之崛起，其中便包括蘇格蘭最大城市的格拉斯哥[2]。
目前大致認為英國現今（2023年）的第二大城市是伯明罕[3]，但近年，曼徹斯特也被視作這一稱號的有力競爭者[4][5][6]。如今格拉斯哥仍有「第二城市」的自稱[7]。而根據政治地位，則又有將蘇格蘭首都愛丁堡[8][9]，或是英國其他構成國的首都加的夫和貝爾法斯特稱作第二城市的。
