海岸闊嘴恐鳥（學名：Euryapteryx curtus），又稱為海岸寬喙恐鳥，是一種已滅絕的恐鳥。

分類學[编辑]

2009年基因分析研究顯示Euryapteryx curtus與Euryapteryx gravis為異名^[3]。一項2010年的研究認為兩者之間的體型差異實際上是兩性異形^[4]。另一項2012年針對形態學的分析則認為體型差異較大的個體屬於亞種^[5]。

2009年，澳洲梅鐸大學麥克·邦斯等人的分子生物學研究中，建構出如下的系統發生樹^[6]：

闊嘴恐鳥屬於平胸小綱東部恐鳥科（英语：Emeidae）的物種。和其他恐鳥一樣，牠們的胸骨不具有龍骨突，並具有形狀獨特的齶。目前的研究顯示牠們的祖先仍保有飛行能力，直到飛行到目前分佈的棲息地區才逐漸隨著演化失去飛行能力^[7]。

棲息與分佈地[编辑]

闊嘴恐鳥分佈於紐西蘭的北島、南島及斯圖爾特島的低地地區，包括沙丘、森林、灌木地及草原^[7]。

行為與環境學[编辑]

截至2006年，半數以上收藏於博物館的完整恐鳥蛋可能均為闊嘴恐鳥的蛋^[8]。原先被認為屬於Euryapteryx gravis的蛋樣本平均長度為205mm、寬度為143mm。而認為屬於Euryapteryx curtus的蛋樣本平均長度為122mm、寬度為94mm^[8]。
