新聞影片
新聞影片（英語：Newsreel）是一種短紀錄片，包含新聞故事和熱門話題，流行於1910年代至1970年代中期[1]。影片通常在電影院播出，新聞片是數百萬電影受眾獲取時事、信息和娛樂的渠道。新聞片通常在故事片之前放映，在1930年代至1940年代，許多主要城市設有專門的新聞影院[2]，一些大城市的電影院設有全日放映新聞影片的專門影廳。
1960年代末，電視新聞取代了新聞影片。新聞影片作為特定時間的唯一影像資料，被認為是重要的歷史文獻[1]。

無聲新聞影片從19世紀末出現在影院中[3]。1909年，百代影業開始在歐洲製作新聞周報[3]。百代於1910年開始在英國製作新聞影片，次年（1911年）開始在美國製作新聞影片[3]。
新聞影片是典型的北美、英國和英聯邦國家（尤其是加拿大、澳大利亞和新西蘭）的主要內容，並且貫穿了從無聲電影時期到1960年代電視新聞廣播完全取代新聞影片的整個歐洲電影史。澳大利亞國立影片和聲音檔案館藏有Cinesound Movietone澳大利亞新聞片集，該合集收錄了四千部新聞片和紀錄片，涵蓋了澳大利亞歷史上所有重大事件與新聞。
英國第一家專門新聞電影院是於1909年5月23日在倫敦開幕的每日生物鏡[4]。1929年，威廉·福克斯買下使館劇院[5]。他將這間影院打造成新聞電影院，並將播出安排從每天兩場2美元的節目改為多場25美分的節目；這個想法非常成功，以至於福克斯和他的支持者宣布他們將在全國開辦大量的新聞片影院[6]。新聞影片經常伴隨着卡通片或短篇電影播映。

在一些國家，新聞片通常使用音樂作為無聲電影片段的背景音樂。部分國家或地區敘述者對輕鬆或非悲劇性的故事輔以幽默評論。在美國，新聞片系列諸如《時間進行曲》（1935-1951）、《百代新聞社》（1910-1956）、《派拉蒙新聞》（1927-1957）、《福克斯電影新聞（1928-1963）、《赫斯特都市新聞》（1914-1967）, 和《環球新聞片》(1929–1967)。 雷電華電影在1931年到1947年間制播《百代新聞社》華納兄弟於1947年接檔《百代新聞社》直至1956年。
新聞片故事的一個例子可以在1941年電影《公民凱恩》中找到，該片由雷電華新聞影片工作人員製作。《公民凱恩》包括一部名為「三月新聞」的虛構新聞影片，該片總結主角查爾斯·福斯特·凱恩模仿《時間的三月》時的生活。
1949年8月12日，英國百代聯合公司在倫敦雇用的一百二十名電影技術人員舉行罷工，抗議在工會協議下的調解未決期間「裁去」15名員工。他們的罷工至少持續到8月16日，星期二是星期四放映的新新聞片製作的最後一天。罷工事件造成英國逾三百家電影院被迫停播新聞影片一周[10]。
電視的影響[編輯]
1948年2月16日， 全國廣播公司推出了一個十分鐘電視節目《駱駝新聞片劇院》（由約翰·卡梅隆·斯威茲主持），片中引用了斯威茲配音的新聞影片。同年，杜蒙電視網推出了兩個短命的新聞片系列——《Camera Headlines》和《INS Telenews》（後者與赫斯特的國際新聞社合作）。
1948年8月15日，哥倫比亞廣播公司開始製作晚間電視新聞節目《道格拉斯愛德華茲和新聞》。後來全國廣播公司、哥倫比亞廣播公司和美國廣播公司開始為自己的新聞節目製作新聞片段。新聞電影院要麼關閉，要麼改播卡通和短連續劇，例如倫敦維多利亞車站新聞電影院，後來卡通電影院於1933年開業，1981年關閉。
《每周評論》是新西蘭「1940年代製作的主要電影系列」[11]。該國於1960年首次播出電視新聞節目時開始播放新聞片片段[12]。
美國最後一部新聞影片於1967年12月26日（聖誕節次日）播出[13]。
技術的進步促成了新聞影片的衰亡（例如1970年代引入的電子新聞採集技術）。儘管如此，古巴、日本、西班牙和意大利等國家或地區在20世紀八九十年代仍繼續製作新聞片[14]。新聞片製作公司拒絕向電視公司供片，但電視公司通過派遣自有的攝製組拍攝新聞事件以回應製片公司的制裁。

The six or seven minutes of newsreel exhibited in ordinary program houses are selected from many reels of current events. Nowhere could one be sure of seeing all the newsreels made in any one week. In Manhattan, William Fox, in collaboration with Hearst Metro tone, found what to do with the newsreels discarded weekly by their companies. He took over a Broadway theater (Embassy) and changed its program from a $2 show twice a day to a continuous 25¢ show. He made the program all newsreels, to run for an hour, a full photographic report of the pictorial parts of the week's news.
