協同編輯
協同編輯是指小組成員共同編譯最終完成作品的工作形式。團體意識、參與和協調對於協同編輯的成功是至關重要的。[1]

協同寫作是指由多個人完成寫作；他們可能在開始之前先討論他們要寫什麼，在每個人完成了自己部分的草案之後再討論他們寫了什麼。[2]寫作任務可能被組織，然後分成多個子任務分配給每個小組成員，一個任務接着一個任務的完成，或者他們也可能共同完成每一項任務。[3][4]作品被計劃、編寫、修訂，這其中至少有一個步驟是多人參與的。[5]通常，文檔結構和內容的討論會全組參與。[6]
這種方法常常用於文本文檔或程序的編寫。這種異步(異時)貢獻是非常有效的，作為小組成員不需要為了一起工作而聚在一起。一般來說，管理這樣的工作需要軟件；[7]最常見的文檔編輯工具是wiki，而對於編程則使用版本控制系統。大多數文字處理軟件也能夠記錄修改，這些軟件允許工作者在同一個文檔上編輯，並能夠自動標記誰做了什麼修改。新的寫作環境如Google Docs，提供協同編輯和版本控制功能，同步/異步編輯。
維基百科是一個大規模協同編輯項目的例子，因為公眾提供的巨大貢獻，這有好處也有壞處，維基百科是世界上最廣泛的資料庫之一。不幸的是，這也會導致網上「塗鴉」，公眾可以提交錯誤信息或隨機的垃圾。協同編輯使得項目比個人寫作更加豐富，也更加複雜。[8]許多學習社區會有一個或多個協同任務。然而，與他人一起寫作也使編寫任務更為複雜。越來越多的研究文獻試圖弄清楚怎樣使用協同寫作可以提高學習經驗。[9] 正確的訪問管理系統可以防止信息重複。[10]訪問管理系統需要訪問伺服器，需要時刻保持在線。[11]在線協同還會因為時區等問題變得更加困難。[12]
