敘利亞共和國衛隊是一支由2萬多官兵（2011年）所組成的裝甲部隊，負責保衛首都大馬士革的安全。它是敘利亞唯一允許在首都活動的軍事力量[1]。
歷史[編輯]
1976年，敘利亞共和國衛隊成立之初，是一支由1萬人組成的特種裝甲部隊，起初是為了防止黎巴嫩境內反敘利亞的巴勒斯坦解放組織武裝分支襲擊敘利亞。1982年巴解被逐出黎巴嫩後，敘利亞共和國衛隊的任務轉變為保護敘利亞政府及敘利亞阿拉伯復興社會黨官員免遭外部威脅[2]。
為了使衛隊士兵絕對忠誠於敘利亞當局，衛隊所有官兵都必須是來自敘利亞西部的阿拉維派穆斯林。衛隊的指揮官可輕鬆獲得來自於代爾祖爾的石油出售收益，而這部分開支佔據了敘利亞國家預算支出的很大部分[3]。
許多阿薩德家族的成員都曾在敘利亞共和國衛隊中服役。現任總統巴沙爾·阿薩德曾於1994至1999年擔任該衛隊中的一名上校，並且指揮着其中的一個旅。他弟弟馬赫爾·阿薩德也曾經擔任衛隊的上校，自2000年起，統率着該衛隊[4]。
