自亞利桑那州於1912年2月加入聯邦以來，[1]該州共經歷了28次美國總統選舉。在1912年美國總統選舉中，時任總統威廉·霍華德·塔夫脫於亞利桑那州僅以12.75%的得票率屈居第四。[2]而在1936年美國總統選舉中，民主黨候選人富蘭克林·羅斯福以42.92%的得票率之差擊敗了共和黨候選人阿爾夫·蘭登，[3]是該州歷史上差距最為懸殊的一次總統選舉。而第三黨候選人在亞利桑那州得票率最高的一次總統選舉為1992年美國總統選舉，在這次選舉中獨立候選人羅斯·佩羅的得票率為23.79%。[4]

2020年大選的民主黨候選人喬·拜登僅以超過時任總統唐納·川普0.3%普選票的微弱優勢贏下了亞利桑那州。[5] 在統計選舉人票時，亞利桑那州眾議員保羅·戈薩拉和德克薩斯州參議員泰德·克魯茲提議反對統計亞利桑那州的11張選舉人票，並認為「在任何已知的情況下這些選舉人票絕不可能合規」。[6] 該項提議在參議院以6-93落敗，而在眾議院則以121–303落敗。[7] 不過川普的競選團隊隨後進行了一系列訴訟，以求改變選舉結果。[8]

自1952年以來，亞利桑那州僅在1996年和2020年的兩次總統選舉中將選舉人票投給民主黨候選人，故而亞利桑那州一向被視為共和黨的票倉。[9]然而，近年的一系列政治重組讓一部分人認為亞利桑那州可算作搖擺州。[9][10]
